Marcyline @ The Mercury Lounge (07/07/23)

Shot by Mia Baric

There is a common misconception that the opening band at a show is usually the worst one. On July 7th, New York City band Marcyline proved this very wrong as they opened with an energetic set at the Mercury Lounge in lower Manhattan. It was a shame for anyone who missed this opener.

Playing alongside fellow New York City bands Golder and Wince, the 5 piece Marcyline played songs off their chillingly engaging album, Treegiver, beginning the show with unbeatable strength. Treegiver is conceptual and eerie, easily transporting the listener to a completely different realm. Melodic guitar and electric riffs rang through the packed venue, and the crowd only seemed to gather more energy as the night progressed, Wince and Golder easily matching Marcyline’s enchanting stage presence.

Electric and noisy, Wince quickly owned the stage with their energetic performance. Eventually followed by Golder, whose melodious and distinct sound brought the show to a satisfying end. As their instruments quieted, they glanced upward and asked if there was time for one more song, to which the crowd responded in cheers.

The current New York City music scene is nothing short of talented, their dedication apparent in every strum of their guitars. It would be a crime not to further explore the endless talent that is loudly trying to escape the walls of NYC’s music venues.

Get to the gig!
