It's impossible to go wrong when playing on a stage adorned with stained glass windows, underneath a tall and decretive high ceiling. Church by day, concert venue by night, Ridgewood Presbyterian Church in Queens New York, otherwise known as Stone Circle Theatre, opened its doors on Saturday, August 5th for bands, Jam Poetry, No Momentum, Oolong, and all the way from Massachusetts, Good Sleepy.

Jam Poetry opened the gig with an energetic set, asking the audience to stand up and get as close to the stage as possible. After setting a great tone for the rest of the show, No Momentum followed shortly after. Although the four-piece was missing their bassist, they still performed a great set filled with movement and memorable high jumps. Good Sleepy, a Massachusetts-based band, was second to last. Currently on tour, they performed an engaging and rowdy set. Concert-goers found themselves laughing as an audience member fell into a speaker comically knocking it over onto the stage. Lastly, Oolong closed off the show with a familiar but unforgettable set, joined by members of Good Sleepy who decided to have a snack on stage while their performance continued. Always full of energy, they are always a blast to catch live.

Unfortunately cut short by NYC’s noise curfew amid Oolong’s set, all four bands were still able to rock the unsuspecting church show on the corner. It would be wise to keep an eye out for upcoming performances at the Stone Circle Theatre as summer comes to a close, as it is truly a magical space for local shows. Get to the gig!
